Vernon Lohse Obituary

Vernon Lohse, a farmer and life-long resident of Hanford, CA, died in the early morning of December 21, 2019 at the age of 86 in a nursing home in Hanford.

Vernon is survived by his two sisters, Geraldine (Tat) Rold and Inez (Nez) Myers; his five sons, Chris, Robert, Thomas, Patrick and Donald; his five daughter in laws, Sandie Lohse (Ross), Teresa Lohse (Marroquin), Tracy Lohse (Braman), Linda Lohse (De Santos) and Rachel Lohse (Severino); his fourteen grandchildren, Stacie, Greg Meraz, Elizabeth, Sarah, Curtis, Cheyenne, Ryan, Brooke, Andrew, Michael, Brian, Jason, Joseph Moore and Michael Moore; and his eleven great grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Eileen Lohse (Mello); his parents, Elmer Lohse and Gladys Lohse (Blair).

Vernon was born in Hanford on May 8, 1933 to Elmer Lohse and Gladys Olivia Blair. He served in the Army and was a Korean War veteran. He worked as a surveyor for Kings county and on a oil exploration rig in Montana for his Uncle Jim Lohse until he was drafted into the army. Since about 1956, his primary activity was Farming. The ranch was located north of Hanford, CA. On June 23, 1956, he married Eileen Loraine Mello she worked at a little country store/gas station on the corner of 10th Avenue and Excelsior Avenue. He welcomed his five strong sons, who were a very important part of his life.

Vernon was a devoted father, public servant and loved to travel. He attended many events to support his children, grandchildren and even his great grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and outdoor life in the Sierra Nevada mountains. He liked to camp at Buck Meadows and Ward lake with his family. He served on the Kings River Hardwick school board. Four generations of his family have served on this school board. His grandfather, Theodore (Ted) Henry Lohse; his father, Elmer Lohse; his son, Robert Lohse all served. Vernon also served on the Kings County cemetery board. Vernon helped to revitalize the Kings River Cemetery located on Dover Avenue. Vernon and Eileen traveled to almost all of the states by driving.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday 12/27/19 at 12:00PM at St. Brigid's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Kings River Cemetery 10499 Dover Ave, Hanford, CA.
