Sharon Johnson Obituary

Our beloved wife and mother Sharon Johnson went to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, March 2, 2025.  She passed away peacefully in the hospital as her husband of 34 years and two daughters held her hand while telling her goodbye. She is now free of the pain, worry, weariness and sorrow brought about by her near 20-year battle with cancer.  She fought that battle bravely with little complaint as she strived to have as much time a possible with her beloved family and friends. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul, one filled with kindness, joy, tenderness, compassion, determination, strength and love.

Sharon was born in Hanford, CA on May 10, 1961, to John and Greta Koelewyn.   She attended college initially at College of the Sequoias in Visalia before finishing her formal education with a BA degree in Graphic Communications – Printing Management from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, CA.  Sharon went on to a successful career in the commercial printing industry first as Production Manager for Dumont Printing in Fresno, CA and later as the lead Customer Service Representative for Pacific Printing in Fresno.  Beginning in December 1995 Sharon left full-time work in the printing industry and moved on to her new, much-loved role as homemaker and full-time mother.  It was in this new role that her strengths in planning, communication, budgeting, team building and organizing came into full form.   She loved her crafts and hobbies such as cross-stich crocheting, scrapbooking, and sewing.  Her world revolved around being a wife, mother, and supporter of the local Christian school as well as the Hanford Christian Reformed Church and Hume Lake Christian Camps. Many of our best family and friend memories were made through weekend, holiday and summer weeks at Hume Lake.

She was a tremendous cook and loved to travel.  She loved her flowers, pets, contemporary Christian music and scrapbooking with friends. Her spiritual life was supported through involvement in Women’s Bible Study and GEMS leadership over the years. She was an enthusiastic embracer of her Dutch heritage and passed on love of that heritage to her girls. Sharon was master of holiday decorating – especially Christmas which was her favorite- and always looked forward to gathering around the table for a holiday meal with family.  Sharon had a quiet gentle spirit with a loving heart for people.  She will be sorely missed by those who knew her, but we rejoice in the fact that she was a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and as such we will see her again in eternity.

Sharon is survived by her beloved husband Dave, daughters Emma Johnson and Madeline Johnson, Sisters Nancy (Dan) Azevedo of Hanford and Pat (Phil) Gill of Ridgecrest CA and Brothers John Koelewyn of Visalia, CA and Mike (Carolyn) Koelewyn of Hanford. She also is survived by sisters-in-law Julie (Josh) Smith of Glendale, AZ and Kim (Tom) Lawrence of Vancouver, WA along with her mother-in law Carol Renner of Tigard, Or.

Following a private family graveside service, a memorial service in celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church of Hanford on Tuesday, March 11 at 11:00 AM (2175 Leoni Drive in Hanford). Donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to Hume Lake Christian Camps.
