Robert James (Bob) Tyler of Hanford left this world peacefully at his home, March 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old.
Bob was born and lived most of his life in Hanford. He attended the “School of Hard Knocks”, as he told his children many times. He had to walk 5 miles to school, in the snow with his brother on his back. And yes, it was uphill both ways.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Hanford Elks Lodge, serving 62 years. He made his career driving truck, working for Kings County truck lines and Souza Milk Transport, retiring after 40 years.
Though he loved driving his 18-wheeler, his true passion was on the 2 wheels of his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Bob’s other favorite pastimes were family BBQ’s, restoring old jalopies and relentlessly teasing his grandkids.
Bob leaves behind a son, Charles Ford, 5 of his “favorite” daughters, Penni (Mark) Cardoso, Peggi (Fred) Carrasco, Cherie (Mark) Craver, Valerie Folks, Jeri Vierra, 20 Grandchildren, 34 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. He also leaves behind 4 un-opened boxes of ice cream bars, which were known to be his favorite.
Preceded in death by parents Arthur J. and Cleta Tyler, Wife Ilene (Sue)Tyler, Brothers Roger and Ronald Tyler and Granddaughter Jentry Cardoso Luis.
The family wishes to thank his loving caretakers of 3 years, whom he loved very much, Ray Ford, Maria Amaral Guzman, Brenda Treadwell, Shelly McCalvy and Annette Moreno. Special Thanks also to Bristol Hospice.
No matter how Bob’s Day was going, he was and will forever be “Fine as frogs hair”
Graveside services will be held at the Hanford Cemetery on Wednesday April 8, 2026, at 10:30 A.M. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Hanford Elks Lodge.
