Qloun Poon Obituary

Qloun Cho Poon, a resident of Madera, CA passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026.  Qloun was born in Stockton on March 15, 1928, to Cho Yee (father) and Sam Shee (mother), both from Canton, China.  Qloun was one of nine brothers and sisters and one stepsister – Jim, Alice, May, Young, Dick, Mon, Chung, Rosie, and Shirley.  She was the 3rd eldest sister.

Qloun graduated from Stockton High School and Stockton Jr College.  Qloun also attended UC Berkeley and finished her training at UCSF hospital as an X-ray technician.  She worked as an X-Ray technician for a prominent Sacramento radiologist for 12 years.

Qloun subsequently worked as a secretary for CALTRANS, later as a legal secretary for a State Compensation Insurance Fund appeals judge, and lastly as a senior legal secretary for the same Insurance fund prior to her retirement.

Qloun met Jim Low, her first husband in the late 1940’s. They were married in 1951 at the First Methodist Church in Hanford, CA and lived in Live Oak, CA where they worked their peach ranch.  In 1963, after 12 years of marriage, Qloun lost her first love due to a plane accident.  Shortly after, she moved to Madera to live with sister Alice.

In the early 1970’s, Qloun was introduced to Joseph Poon.  The two dated for a few years and married in 1974.  They moved to Joe’s house in Castro Valley and lived there for approximately 30 years until they eventually moved to Madera.  Qloun was happily married to Joseph for 40 years until his death in 2014.

Qloun was caring, thoughtful, friendly, and willing to help in a sincere and genuine way to all.  She would help Sister Alice cook and raise her younger children, helped brother Chung with his secretarial needs, and helped out at the apricot ranch.  She was the “Auntie” to many generations of nephews and nieces, always attending family events.  She loved them all.  She was very generous and gracious with her time and home.  She was fully devoted to her husband and family with all of her heart.

Qloun’s  favorite hobby was to travel around the world with family and friends.  Some of her trips included China, South America, Europe, Russia, Australia, and Egypt.

Qloun is survived by sister May, brother Chung, stepsister Shirley, sister in laws Nellie and Susan, numerous nephews, nieces, grand nieces, grand nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Her extended families wishes to thank Saint Mary’s hospice, the doctors and staff at Kaiser Permanente, and caretakers Lourdes, Helen, and especially Odette Olvera and family for their kind and compassionate care.

Qloun was DEEPLY loved and will be missed by all.
