Olivia Coelho passed away on December 6, 2023, at the age of 92, surrounded by family throughout her final days. She was born on August 31, 1931, to Joseph F. and Maria Coelho, who immigrated from the Azorean Island of Terceira. She was the seventh of eight children.
Olivia was raised in Riverdale and upon graduation from Riverdale High School began her career. Her first job was at the post office where she enjoyed helping and interacting with the local community. She then moved to Hanford after marrying the love of her life, Wesley Coelho, a dairyman and farmer. Olivia resumed her career after the birth of their two daughters and became employed at Crocker National Bank working in the Note Department. She worked there for nearly thirty years before retiring.
Following retirement, Olivia spent her days enjoying her family, traveling and attending daily Mass at St. Brigid Church where she was a long-time parishioner and served as a Eucharistic lay minister for many years. She was also active in the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Kings County Cabrillo Club and St. Rose-McCarthy Catholic School. Olivia and Wesley loved to travel and took many trips together. While vacationing on the East Coast in the Fall of 1988, Wesley unexpectedly passed away at the age of 66 after 37 years of marriage. Olivia also enjoyed being outdoors and caring for her rose garden. She enjoyed attending Portuguese Festas and vacationing at the coast. Olivia was extremely proud of her Portuguese heritage.
Olivia was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was always there for her family. She was a person of strong faith and her love for God guided her throughout her life. Olivia brought immense joy and love to those around her.
Olivia was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph F. and Maria Coelho, her husband, Wesley Coelho, her sisters, Mary Farmer and Emily Coelho, her brothers, Joe, Tony, Frank and John Coelho. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Dilling (Jim) of Fresno and their children, Jimmy Dilling (Alexandra) of Fresno and Julie Cramer (Kent) of Capitola; her daughter, Mary Coelho (Pete Koehn) of Monterey and their children, Sean Koehn (Glenda) of Palmdale and Brett Koehn of Hayward. Olivia had six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister, Audrey Warmerdam, and numerous nieces and nephews. Olivia and Audrey were very close and shared many wonderful times together.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Hanford. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:00 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Hanford Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
