Maria Bernardete Correia, 90, of Hanford, originally from Terceira, Azores, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, surrounded by family. Maria was born on September 15, 1935 to Manuel de Sousa Correia and Francisca Margarida Barcelos. Maria immigrated to the United States on July 4, 1970 with her family.
She is survived by her children, Antonio (Margarida) Correia and their children, Sonia (Joey) Gonzalez and Cristina (Paul) Silveira; Joe (Tammie) Correia and their children, Joseph (Chelsea) Correia and Ashley Correia; Cecelia (Marc) Vieira; Manuel Correia and his children Ryan (Chelsea) Correia and Kira Correia; Gabriel Lima and his children Larissa Lima (Chava Iniguez) and Lawrence Lima (Sierra Hamilton); Norbert (Amber) Alves and their children Jordan and Molly Alves. She also had 16 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law Maria Correia.
She is preceded in death by her parents Manuel de Sousa Correia and Francisca Margarida Barcelos. Siblings Jose B. Correia and Joao Correia and his wife Rosa. Children Carlos Alberto Correia and Maria Margarida Correia.
Maria devoted her life to being a homemaker, creating a home filled with love, warmth, and compassion. She had a big heart, a generous spirit, and a gentle soul, always putting the needs of others before her own. She found great joy in tending to her garden and took pride in sharing its beauty with those around her. Nothing made her happier than spoiling her family with her traditional Portuguese dishes and freshly baked bread, bringing everyone together around the table with meals made from the heart. Her home was a place where everyone felt welcome, loved, and cared for. Through her kindness, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to her family, she created countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
