On Saturday, July 27, 2024, Marcelina “Marcy” Torres, 97 years of age entered into eternal rest at her home of 64 years, surrounded by her loved ones, after an 11-year struggle with Alzheimers.
Born on April 25, 1927, to parents Bessie “Vicenta” Vaughn and Vicente Rodriguez, both who have preceded her in death. Although she only mastered an eighth-grade education she achieved so much more in life and touched the lives of many people along the way.
She married the late Pedro “Pete” Torres in 1951 and they started their lives together in the San Fernando Valley before relocating to Kings County in 1960. They were married for 54 years before Pete’s passing in 2006. Marcy was a full-time homemaker who was always there for her husband and children’s needs. She was an avid gardener and crocheter, she made many beautiful baby blankets and afghans for family members and friends, which will now be lasting memories.
Marcy was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, son Gene E. Torres (partner Dawn Grumbles), daughter Barbara E. Torres, son Michael S. Torres and daughter Cynthia E. Torres. She leaves her grandsons Brandon Torres, Bryan Torres, Britton Torres and Tyler Torres Menezes and granddaughter Kristyn Torres. She also leaves her younger siblings Martin Rodriguez and Jesus Virginia Solis and numerous nieces, nephews and God children. She was preceded in death by her younger brother Antonio “Tony” Rodriguez. Marcy leaves a legacy of strength, resilience, kindness and generosity.
On behalf of the family of Marcy Torres, we would like to thank Adventist Hospice Care Staff, Daisy and her whole crew of nurses and aides for their compassion and comforting care of our mother for the last months and extend our gratitude to Doctors Susan Locke and Vladmir Royter and Janet Dove NP for their heartfelt treatment of our mother for the past 12 years.
