Leon Pereira, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home May 21st, 2025, at the age of 80.
Leon was born in Portal, Sao Jorge on April 2nd, 1945, to Manual and Maria Pereira. He came to the United States at the age of 15 and settled in Tulare, California. He returned to the Azores several years later, where he married the love of his life, Lucia. They then returned to America and began a long and happy life together, first in the Bay Area before settling down in Hanford.
Leon is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Lucia, children Lizabeth (and her husband John Rocha), Larry, and Leon Jr. His happiness was further increased by his three loving grandchildren, Jared, Jessica, and Isabella, who brought joy and laughter into his life.
Leon was at his happiest spending time with those that he loved. Going to the coast was a special time for him to be with his family for fishing on the pier, an early morning walk, or just the chance to enjoy some clam chowder. Each Sunday at Family Night, Leon would be excited for his children and grandchildren to arrive for a night of playing cards, board games, and enjoying a meal together as a family.
Leon will be remembered for his sense of adventure in which any missed turn or untraveled road became an opportunity to explore; a sense of humor in which a joke was always ready with a twinkle in his blue eyes; and an enduring love for those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the chance to know him.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst Funeral Home in Hanford, on Thursday, May 29th 2025, at 8:30 am with rosary and funeral mass to follow at St. Brigid Catholic Church at 10:00. He will then be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
