Jose Carlos Pereira

Jose Carlos Pereira, best known as Joe, passed away July 30, 2025. He was born August 11, 1947, in Santa Barbara, Terceira, Acores. He immigrated to the United States in 1972, and lived the last 13 years in Hanford, CA. 

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Rosa Pereira, his daughter, Nelia Pereira Criswell (Blake), and two grandsons, Evan and Ethan Criswell. He was preceded in death by his oldest grandson, Logan Criswell, and his parents, Alvarino Pereira and Laura Cotta.

Joe is remembered by his siblings, Manuel Pereira (Fatima) of Strathmore, Tony Pereira (Estrelinha) of Lemoore, and Mary Brasil, twenty-one nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. 

Joe loved his wife of 53 years, and adored his only daughter and his grandsons. He took pride in keeping the gravesite of his grandson, Logan, impeccably clean and decorated. He loved God. His best buddy was his dog. He loved the game of golf, even though he hadn’t played in years. His favorite activity was playing a good card game with his friends. Joe loved a good laugh, and was lovingly nicknamed “Tio (Uncle) Joke” by some nieces and nephews. 

Joe had a memorable and lasting impact through his ability to make people laugh. May those joyous occasions live on in the memories of his family and friends. 

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, located at 10435 Hanford Armona Road, Hanford, CA on Thursday, August 14, 2025, then final prayers at Calvary Cemetery, 11680 S. 10th Avenue, Hanford, CA. Reception to follow at Hanford Fraternal Hall, 1015 N. 10th Avenue, Hanford, CA. 

In lieu of flowers or plants, monetary gifts in his memory will be donated to organizations dear to his heart.
