João Eduino Silva Brasil, known as Edwin, passed away on July 1, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on December 25, 1959, in Cruzal, São Antão, São Jorge, Açores, to João and Maria Conçeição Brasil.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lilian Brasil; and their six children: Veronica Leonardo (Robert), José Eduino Brasil (Jeana), Manuela Brasil (Katelynn), Nelson Brasil, André Brasil (Kasi), and Victoria Brasil (Jacob Mejia). He also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Camden & Sebastian Leonardo, Jayde, Jed, Jax, and Jessie Brasil, Eli Boyd-Brasil, and Hallie Jo Brasil.
Edwin is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Adosinda Tavares, Jose & Lorette Brasil, Goretti & Manuel Avila, Antonio & Rosalia Brasil, and Dacia Dutra.
And 40 nieces and nephews, along with many more great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, João and Maria Conçeição Brasil; his siblings Angelo, Duarte, and Manuela; and brothers-in-law Manuel Fernando and Francisco Tavares.
Edwin was a husband to one, a father to six, a grandfather to eight, and a dear friend to many. He was a man of integrity, a caretaker, and faithful to the Lord.
He was a dairyman and a cowboy. A barefoot 13 year old boy with an American dream. He immigrated from the Açores islands in 1973 and milked cows with his Pai for Tony and Nadine Costa in Visalia, CA. With a fourth grade education, he worked relentlessly to provide for his family. In 1998 he started his own herd. A work ethic that was unmatched, and a passion for cattle, saw him through sleepless nights and against all odds. He built an empire out of grit and thin air. With a capstone of purchasing his dream pastures in Fountain Springs, CA. Edwin’s dreams were fulfilled. He earned his United States citizenship on June 26, 2021, a special day that highlighted his pride for his country.
Success to Edwin was a means to provide and it was his calling to do so. His word was bond, and he helped anyone in need; no matter the circumstance. His life was extraordinary. One of legend that leaves a forever impact in the hearts of those who loved him.
