Iva Simas Thomas

Iva Simas Thomas of Hanford passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025. Only days away from her birthday, she was 93 years old. Iva was born to Manuel and Maria Machado in Pico, Azores on August 21, 1931. Iva came to California with the love of her life Joe Thomas in 1963. Joe and Iva were married for 58 years. Iva was a member of the Portuguese Fraternal Society of America (PFSA) and the Sociedade Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel (SPRSI) a women’s fraternal benefit society dedicated to Queen Saint Isabel of Portugal. Iva found joy in cooking, tending to her garden and a passion for playing sueca. A passion passed along to the generations that follow.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Maria and husband Joe. She is survived by her daughter Eva Monteiro and husband Manuel of Hanford. She also leaves behind her beloved grandsons Darrin Monteiro and wife Katelyn of Hanford, David Monteiro of Hanford, and Brian Monteiro and wife Shelby of Hanford. She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren Lincoln, Wyatt, Ava, Emma, Adalyn and Danika.

Rosary for Iva will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 10:00am at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Hanford. Funeral mass will follow at 10:30am at the church. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, in Hanford.
