Harry Verheul Obituary

Harry was born in Hanford, California on December 5, 1940 to Florence and Harry F. Verheul.  He and his younger brother, Robert, grew up on the farm and were inseparable. When Harry wasn’t on the family farm he could be found at Quaking Aspen in the Southern Sierras helping out at the family store. He went to grammar school at Pioneer Elementary where he went to school with the girl that would become the love of his life, although they did not know it at that time.

Growing up, Harry and Robert learned tap dancing and did many local performances together. Harry graduated from Hanford High School in 1958 and then attended engineering school at Fresno State where he became a civil engineer.  He served briefly in the Air National Guard and then went to work for Kings County in the public works department. He worked for the County for over 50 years and retired as public works director.  He truly loved his job and loved the people he worked with even more.

He met Annarose (re-met) the love of his life when she was working for Beacon Oil.  They married and had 2 kids, Eric and Karen.  They would stay married for 60 years.

Harry loved backpacking and camping. Some of our fondest memories involved him backpacking and showing his son his love of the mountains.  Sometimes all that would be visible from behind was his backpack, cowboy hat and plumes of cigar smoke.

Harry was well loved by his family he was the best husband (he doted over Mama), father and grandfather (Papa) you could ever ask for.  After retirement he and AnnaRose loved to go to their happy place on the Central Coast: Cayucos, Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and wife, AnnaRose. He is now truly at peace with God, AnnaRose and his mother and father. He is survived by his brother, Robert, sister in law, Patricia, son, Eric, daughter in law, Peggy, daughter, Karen, son in law, Roman, and his grandchildren Kaitlyn and Andrew Sowala, Sarah, Meghan and Matthew Verheul.

Although you are at eternal peace we all miss you terribly.
