Gilbert “Herky” Allen Blanchard, Senior (1943-2025) Gilbert “Herky” Allen Blanchard, Senior, age 82, died on August 8, 2025 in Hanford, CA. Gilbert was best known for being humble and kind. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather as well as a fierce friend. Gilbert was born in Hanford, CA in 1943 to Gilbert Valentine and Alcye Blanchard. After the passing of his father, Gilbert’s mother married Sydney Schellinger, who guided him through early adulthood and taught him his profession. He was known as “Herky” to all who loved him from a young age. After serving in the Army stationed in West Germany, Gilbert worked as a maintenance specialist repairing gas stations in the western part of the country. He retired from what is now known as Valero Oil in May 2006. After retirement, Gilbert and his wife, Helen, frequently traveled the country in their RV and had many new adventures. He also spent time attending events for his grandchildren including dance recitals, sporting events, and various award ceremonies. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, sister Elizabeth Dixon, brothers Robert Blanchard and Nathaniel Schellinger, and is survived by wife Helen, sons Gilbert Allen Jr (married to Shirley) and Joseph (married to Joelle), and grandchildren Margaret, Michael (married to Anna), Mykela, Katelyn, Samantha, and Victoria. A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am on August 25, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hanford, CA followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 am. There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers/plants, the family requests a donation be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
