Hanford, CA, formerly from Greece, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Betty Sanger. Gary is survived by his siblings; Daniel (Betsy), Raymond (Barbara), Mary, Tom (Marilyn), nephews David, Daniel and Ian, niece Christina.
Gary served in the Air Force from 1968 – 1972. He spent a year in Vietnam and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He then earned a B.S. degree in Geology and then a M.S. degree in Geophysics, and worked for the government for a number of years. He then returned to college, this time earning a B.S. in Meteorology. He worked at the NWS office in Bakersfield, CA for a few years before being transferred to the NWS office in Hanford, CA where he worked for 25 years, finally retiring in 2015.
Gary joined the American Legion Post in Hanford where he served as Commander and Chaplin. He participated in many Legion events and enjoyed the annual Veterans parade. He was also a member of American Veterans (AmVets). He also assisted with many science fairs put on by local schools. He was a devout Catholic throughout his life and volunteered as a lector for them, most recently at St. Brigids. He helped out as he could at his apartment complex and was part of the local neighborhood watch.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday morning, July 21 at 8:30 am at St. Brigids Catholic Church and internment will be at Hanford Cemetery. Funeral services provided by Whitehurst McNamara Funeral home.
