Floyd Ray Swanger, beloved Husband, father, grandfather, and devoted patriot, passed away on November 1, 2025, in Fresno, California, at the age of 82. Born on June 22, 1943, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Floyd was the cherished son of William Howard Taft Swanger and Cora Lee Finley. From an early age, he lived with a sense of duty, warmth, and an unwavering love for family that would define his entire life.
Floyd proudly served his country as a career Navy man, including honorable service during the Vietnam War. The Navy shaped him, its values, its brotherhood, and its sense of adventure stayed with him long after he retired from active duty. Following his military career, Floyd continued serving others through his work with PG&E, where he brought the same dedication, reliability, and heart that marked everything he did.
After retiring for a second time, Floyd embraced the freedom of the open road, traveling across the United States as a full-time RVer with the love of his life, his late wife, Eva Beatrice Swanger. Together, they created countless memories and met friends who became like family along the way.
Floyd was a man of many passions, chief among them were his family, the Navy, traveling, and his beloved hobby as a Ham Radio enthusiast. In the last five years of his life, he was blessed to find companionship again with Paula Johnson, who brought laughter, comfort, and joy to his days. Their time together was a beautiful reminder that love can bloom at any stage of life.
He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Renee Westmoreland and her husband, Brad; his son, Michael Wayne Swanger and his wife, Deanna; eight adored grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Floyd’s generosity, loyalty, and genuine care for others left a deep and lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy is rich rooted in love, service, laughter, and adventure.
Floyd will be missed greatly, remembered always, and honored forever.
A funeral service celebrating Floyd’s life will be held at Glad Tidings Church in Hanford, California, on December 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. All friends and family are warmly invited to attend and pay tribute to a man who touched so many lives with his kindness and strength.
