Christina Longoria, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted woman of faith, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 16, 2026, at the age of 90.
Christina was born on August 31, 1935, in Powell, Wyoming. She was one of six children, growing up alongside her four sisters and one brother. Her family later settled in Greenfield, California, where she met the love of her life, Gumecindo Moreno Longoria. The two married and began building a life rooted in love, faith, and family. Together, they welcomed seven children and made their home in the Hanford area.
Christina was a devoted wife, a deeply loving mother, and the heart of her family. She is survived by her children: Stella, Gary, Steve, Luke, Christine, and Dan; her 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Carmen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gumecindo, her son, Manuel, and her parents, Santos and Torivio Ortega.
A respected member of her community, Christina dedicated nearly 20 years of service to the State of California in the Employment Development Department, where she was known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted Catholic, Christina was actively involved in her church as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and choir member. Her commitment to her faith deepened through her involvement in the Cursillo Movement, where she and her husband spent many years attending retreats, meetings, and Masses throughout the valley. She held a special devotion to the Virgin Mary and prayed the Rosary daily.
Christina found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished time spent celebrating birthdays, milestones, and holidays, especially Christmas and Easter, which she filled with meaning and tradition. Her love and guidance shaped generations, and she remained a steady, faithful presence through life’s many seasons.
Christina and Gumecindo shared a deep and enduring love. In their later years, they were rarely apart, traveling together and continuing their spiritual journey side by side. When Gumecindo’s Parkinson’s disease progressed, Christina remained devotedly at his side, caring for him with unwavering love until his passing in March 2016.
Not long after, Christina was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. In the years that followed, her family surrounded her with the same love and devotion she had always given so freely to them. She was lovingly cared for at home until it became necessary to move her to Nazareth House in Fresno. There, she was embraced by a compassionate staff who treated her like family and supported her in continuing to practice her faith.
Christina will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her strength, her kindness, and her deep love for her family. She was the backbone of her family, a guiding light, and a woman whose life was a testament to devotion—to God, to her husband, and to the many lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
