Celina Mateus

Celina Mateus,78, of Hanford, California, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born Almagreira, Lajes do Pico, Azores, Celina carried her deep love of her family, faith, and tradition throughout her life.

Celina enjoyed crocheting, baking, singing, and playing card and board games. She especially cherished spending time with family and friends and found great comfort in prayer. Her kindness and spirit touched everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank Mateus; her sons Joe Mateus (Carla Mateus), Edward Mateus, Robert Mateus (Tiffany Mateus); and her daughter Yvonne Azevedo, (Brian Azevedo). She was also blessed to have nine grandchildren (Meaghan, Breanna, Matthew, Brooke, Daulton, Amalia, Isabella, Daniel, and Anthony) who brought immense joy to her life.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 5th at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church in Hanford, CA

Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Rosary at 10:00 a.m., and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, with reception afterward at St. Anthony’s Hall.

In honor of Celina’s wishes guests are welcome to wear black traditional black attire with a pop of color-especially lilac, one of her favorite colors.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Celina’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization she supported and cared deeply about, or you may offer a Mass for the repose of her soul.

Eternal rest grant upon her O’ Lord and Let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
