It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved father, Angel Sotelo Jr., who left us on October 27, 2024 at age 85. He was born in Newark, California on April 7, 1939. He lived in various cities throughout his life before settling in Hanford 50 years ago.
Shortly after serving in the United States Army, he met his wife Thereza Chacon. They were married on July 1, 1961. Angel worked with various companies including General Motors, Naval Air Stations of North Island and Miramar, San Diego, and Lemoore. In 1981, he was hired with Spanish station Channel 21 in Hanford. When Univisión moved locations to Fresno, he commuted there until his retirement in 2003.
Angel enjoyed cross country roadtrips with his wife and family and visited Washington D.C., Pensacola, Niagara Falls, Mt. Rushmore, and New York. He enjoyed listening to music, watching movies and was a fan of Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, and westerns. He enjoyed eating desserts and his favorite banana ice cream from Superior Dairy. He was mechanically gifted and could “MacGyver” many working contraptions. He liked to share his knowledge of car mechanics with his children and anyone who would listen.
Angel is predeceased by his loving wife Thereza and son Rev. Angel L. Sotelo. He is survived by his children, Mary Bumgarner (Kelly), Katherine Ashmore (Mike), Anthony Sotelo (Eliza) Patricia Sotelo, and Theresa Sotelo (Abel). He is also survived by his sisters Juana Sanchez, Paula Richter, Angela Marroquin, Antonia Lugo and brother Rudy Cardona. He will be deeply missed by grandchildren Monica DeTonnancourt, Philip DeTonnancourt, Ben DeTonnancourt, Roman Sotelo, and great-granddaughter Vivian DeTonnancourt.
