Andres “Andy” Valenzuela Calderon was born to Guadalupe and Umelda Calderon on October 30, 1956 in Arlington, Texas. His family relocated to San Jose, CA when he was just a young boy. Andy grew up in San Jose, attending school there, and eventually graduating from James Lick High School in 1974. He married his high school sweetheart Janice Nunez in the summer of 1975. Together they welcomed four beautiful children together: Andres Jr., Gabriel, Monica, and Cynthia. Andy and Janice eventually divorced, but remained friends for their children and grandchildren. Andy joined the United States Marine Corp Reserves in 1974. That same year he began his career as a Custodian for San Jose Unified School District. Andy and Janice relocated their family to Hanford in 1988, where Andy continued his Custodial career with Hanford Elementary School District, serving 28 years; retiring in 2016. Andy was passionate about Kajukenbo karate, earning his 5th degree black belt in the craft. He often practiced with his brother Danny, taught classes to students out of his garage, and participated in tournaments. After having children, Andy taught his skills to his sons Andy Jr and Gabe. As they were growing up you could often find him taking his son Gabe and a few of his students to tournaments to compete. In his later years; Andy enjoyed taking rides on his Harley Davidson with his son Andy Jr., strolling the flea markets with his sons and with his brother Danny, and spending time with his family and friends. Andy passed away peacefully on Sunday July 21, 2024 after a long fight with early onset dementia. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. We will miss him dearly!
Andy is preceded in death by his parents: Guadalupe and Umelda Calderon, an infant sister Bernadina, and his grandson Lukas Cordova. He is survived by his children: Andy Jr & Brandy Calderon of Hanford, Gabe & Laura Calderon of Hanford, Monica & Jose Gurrola of Lemoore, and Cindy & Eddie Cordova of Hanford; his siblings; Guadalupe “Pete” & Mary Calderon of San Jose, Rachael & Bill Farley of San Jose, Danny & Kathy Calderon of Dinuba, Dolly & Nick Lara of Gilroy, Thomas Calderon of Armona, and Elia & Joey Zappia of Winton; 12 grandchildren, 7 bonus grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
