Anderson Paul Shorty, 57, passed away on Tuesday May 7th, 2024, at Clovis Community Hospital while he was surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Cortez, Colorado he was the son of Billy Paul Shorty and Rose Merritt (Benally). In 1989, at the age of 22, Anderson left the Navajo Reservation and started a life in Hanford, California where he remained until his passing. Anderson, also known to many as Andy or Shorty, dedicated 24 years of service working for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Anderson enjoyed traveling home to Utah every chance he could, going on bike runs on his Indian motorcycle, enjoyed dancing and drinks at Farmer’s Market, and being Cheii (grandpa). Anderson is survived by his only son, Andrew Shorty (Cheyenne) of Hanford, CA, his daughters Aimee Lopez (Julio) of Hanford, CA, Reannah Suh of Austin, TX, Aiyanna Shorty of Pheonix, AZ, his granddaughters Luna and Mia Lopez of Hanford, CA, fiancé Patrice Gallegos of Hanford, CA, his brother Maxin Shorty, and sisters Julia Shorty, Bernice Whitehorse, Cassandra Merritt, Renita Jones, Jennifer Shorty, and Lisa Black.
He is preceded in death by his mother Rose, father Billy, brothers Timson Shorty, Anthony Shorty, and nephews Darwin Shorty, Sheldon Shorty, and Manvel George.
Services will be held in Shiprock, New Mexico at the Desert View Funeral Home on May 17th, 2024, at 10 am. Burial to follow at the Benally Family Plot.
