Alan Scott Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alan Ross Scott, who left us on March 7, 2025, at the age of 83 in Hanford, California. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished grandfather.  Alan was your loyal friend, and a man whose presence brought warmth, wisdom, and laughter to all who knew him.

Born on July 12, 1941, in Quincy, Massachusetts, Alan’s life was one of dedication and service. A proud graduate of Shrewsbury High School, class of 1959, he went on to serve in the United States Navy for 22 years as an Air Traffic Controller, rising to the distinguished rank of E7 Chief Petty Officer. Alan’s military service took him across the world, from the decks of the USS Forrestal to stations in Japan, Norfolk, VA, Key West, FL, Lemoore, CA and Naples, Italy. The Navy shaped his character, instilling in him a sense of discipline, camaraderie, and unwavering loyalty—values he carried with him long after his service ended.

Following his military career, Alan embarked on a new chapter as a human resources executive, working in corporate security and music distribution for nearly three decades. A natural mentor, he not only excelled in his profession but continued to support and guide his colleagues long after retirement. Alan was proud of his various positions within the Fresno Area Workforce Investment Board, as well as a contributing member of the group fighting against the high-speed rail, a project many will know he was very passionate about.

The heart of Alan’s life was his family. Married to Angela (Brewer) for 49 beautiful years, he was the devoted and loving husband of his Irish bride.  Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support. He was a proud father to Niamh and Brendan, and later welcomed Susan, his beloved daughter-in-law, into the family.  But perhaps his greatest joy was being “Grangran” to his three granddaughters, Sadie, Alma, and Vivian—his most treasured gifts in life.

Alan was the eldest of eight siblings. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Barbara Scott, his sister, Claudia DiPilato, his younger brother, Fred, and his nephew, Thomas Scott. He leaves behind his five remaining brothers—Brian, Duncan, Jon, Jay, and Dana Scott—along with a large and loving extended family. Uncle Alan’s 16 nieces and nephews on the Scott side, and 17 on the Brewer side, will deeply miss the warmth and affection he always showed whenever they gathered to celebrate being together.

Alan had a remarkable gift for connecting with people. Whether an old friend or a stranger, he had a way of making others feel valued and at ease. His loyalty knew no bounds, and he was always the first to lend a hand, offer advice, or share a story that could brighten even the darkest days. Alan was a constant source of comfort, humor, and strength to those lucky enough to know him.

A viewing will be held on March 13, 2025, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Whitehurst McNamara Funeral Service, 100 W Bush St., Hanford, California. A funeral service will be held on March 14 at 10:00 AM at the same location. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, 11680 S 10th Ave., Hanford, California, at 11:30 AM.

As Alan often said, “The bottom line is”, that his spirit will live on through the stories, the laughter, and the love shared by those who were fortunate enough to know him. His was a life that was well-lived, well-loved, and never to be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Veterans Foundation (https://nvf.org/veterans-memorials-dedications/). The family would like to thank all the healthcare providers that helped Alan over the years and especially the medical team in Adventist Health Hanford and their Hospice Care—their kindness and compassion in his final days were a comfort to us all.
